Re: Johnson motor ID

You most likely have a 1965 Johnson 9.5 with a model number of MQ-11 + a trailing letter for a model run within the year.

The fuel/oil ratio is 50:1 87US Octane to TC-W3 oil. The plugs were initially J4J which have now are superseded by the Champion J4C. Many use a J6C which is a hotter plug.

The engine will run better with less carbon and plug fouling using synthetic or synthetic blend TC-W3 oil.

Thanks for the information. I thought the 2nd letter could be a Q but it was hard to read. I thought this motor was newer than that but it runs well, thanks again.
