Johnson Motor Problems

I have a 1999 Johnson 115 on a Stratos 268V. My problem is when I am at WOT the motor wants to skip badly almost losing power completely. It will run fine for 10 seconds or so and then start skipping, sputtering and almost come off plane then catch back up to full speed. Next run it will run fine for 2-3 miles and then start again. Next run it will be hard to plane due to the skipping or sluggishness. It cranks and idles fine every time but is just missing badly at WOT and most of the time at half throttle. I had some kind of sensor replaced but it didn't seem to help. Sorry this is so long but I would like some input as to what might be wrong before I see the mechanic again.

frankly it could be a lot of things. coil going bad, fuel restriction, fuel pump. just to start. take the mech for a ride in the boat.
