I resently purchased a 14' boat that come with what I was told is a johnson 20hp outboard. The mounting bracket has been replaced with a Evinrude bracket, for unknown reason, so I have no idea what model it is. From what I can see, the serial # is J2826931. This is the number on the round plug under the hood. It has no Model number on the plug though.
I did some checking and talked to a guy that thinks my motor is a 1967 28 hp. He said the earlier years only had a Model number. He claims the "J" is for Johnson, and the 28 is for the hp. the 931 indicates the year. Can anyone verify what he is saying? I would appreciate the help.
