I have the s/n 05045741 johnson o/b
and the model number is # j25TELSRA.
would like to know what year this motor is.

it is a Long shaft that measures 28inches fromthe top of the transom to the
middle of the prop.
I have a 20 inch transom. how would this work on my 15 ft. tin boat.

2004 and I'm pretty sure it will work, the extension on the evinrude site says it's for 20 inch long transom which is what you have.

Yes the 'L' in the model number is for a long shaft which is for a 20" transom height.

The length of the boat and the material of construction are irrelevant
