Johnson parts same as Evinrude parts?

Just want to get this straight before I go and order a bunch of stuff.. I have a 76 115 Johnson, and it doesnt come up on the iboats parts list for their store. The 115 Evinrude shows up for 1976 though. Are these the same exact motors? I like how iboats store is set up, easy to navigate, although I have tried a couple other places and cant find a 76 115 Johnson either. Just want to make sure I get the right stuff.

As far as I know, if you match a johnson and Evinrude exactly in terms of year and model, the parts should be identical. The only exception that I can think of is cowls, decals, placards, etc. On some model (hydro-electric in particular) the control units may be different also. That said, they would work with a motor of the "opposite" branding.

can you post your model number? I don't think Johnson made a 115 that year but they did make the 115 in 1977.

according to Ken Cook it was made, but not on the BRP site, i would say 99% identical with 76 Evinrude, http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1976&ID=119714

Should be similar to Evinrude 115693 / 115699 except for items already listed above.
