I have a 1967 Johnson 9.5 and want to test the water pump, but cannot find the pee hole. The only hole I found in the motor is an exhaust toward the back, but it is fairly large(approx. 3/8"). Is this it??? Thanks for any info.
Dustin

that is it just under the cowling cover.if you look down in the engine you will see a flex hose that goes to that hole it is rubber so it cant be exhaust.the exhaust vents out under the water line. i have 3 of these engine and have had great luck with them so far.let us know how you make out

Re: johnson pee hole

Thanks Wayne. I finally found a diagram in my manual just after posting. Ha... searched for around an hour... Anyway, I wasn't getting any water, so I tried to check for blockage by spraying air into the hole. It seemed to be clear, so I pulled the lower unit and am going to replace the impeller tomorrow. This should take care of the problem right?? Or is there something else that I should do while I have it broken down? Thnks again for all the help.
Dustin

sounds like you have it. i am not sure if there is a thermostat in that engine if so you might want to change that also. i am new to these engines also and am waiting on my manuals to get here. how was it taking off the lower unit to get to the pump ? i need to do mine also

Not a problem at all... Just take out the screws and pull the unit down a couple of inches to allow access to the bolt on the shifter rod. TAke this bolt out and the unit pulls right off the motor. The only problem I had was that the motor was not in neutral... could not pull the unit down to disconnect the shifter until in neutral. This is my first attempt at any kind of repair, so if I can do it with little problems, it must be pretty simple ;) . Good luck.
Dustin

Just a thing to consider is instead of using an aircompressor to blow air through the system to see if its clear, hook a hose to the water hose leading to the head and blow on it with your lungs. Mine was clogged so water wouldnt pass but compressed air would, but it was difficult when you actually tried to blow on it where it should be easy.
