Engine is question is a 78 115hp outboars 2-stroke

One of the cylinders isnt firing (top, left side) So I swaped power packs with the other side (working fine) and now the lower cylinder wont fire?

So I put the thought bad one onto the right side, and both fire.

Sooo. coils all work, and power packs work. So what could the problem be?

I though the plug might be bad, so i cut the wires and but-spliced them together real quick, and top cylinder still dosnt fire. what gives?

Re: Johnson power pack problem?

On the opposite side's rower pack, the coil plug, the 1st pin fires the second cylinder. (bottom)

and the bad side, the 1st pin fires the 1st cylinder.

Which makes since why when power packs are reversed, the not firing cylinder begins to fire, basically swapping the problem.

Which leads me to believe whatever triggers the power pack to fire which cylinder, is bad.

anybody follow me?

Try cleaning all of you grounds that go to the coils and power pack. I had one not firing right once and when all the gorunds were shiny clean it all worked again.

I busted out the manual and did all the OHM tests. Everything was withing specs, but only when the warm-up lever was up.
