I am working on getting an old QD 16 10 horse back in working condition and was wondering about the tiller handle being hard to twist. I have gone thru and cleaned and lubed all the shafts and linkage and when I put the handle back on without the spring in it turns very easy but when I put the spring in the handle it seems to me like it turns very hard. I have tried different lubes on the end of the tiller handle wear the spring presses against it without any luck. Any help or suggestions would be appriciated. Thanks

I've had this same problem and often the solution I've found is to take the grip off and make sure the little metal band that says start, stop, etc. is nice and round. If not, the throttle grip will bind a little on that metal band and is hard to turn. Bend that band until it fits nice and snug on the tiller handle all the way around and replace the grip. This usually fixes it for me. BTW, to see if this is the problem, try to use your hands to sqeeze the band in different areas while you try to turn the grip and see if it loosens up.---love those QD's!:)
Good luck,

Did you remove and lube the friction plug that goes in the end of the twist grip?

I second F_Rs recommendation. The type of grease you use makes a difference too. I found I like Bendix Ceram-lube for brake calipers the best. Although regular water proof marine grease is probably just as good. The white lithium in an aerosol can....not so much.

Yes I did but I'm not sure if I'm using the right grease?
