Needed to replace the impeller and plate! Went smoothly but after assembly, it still wouldn’t pump water! Turns out that the shaft drops too far down into the lower gear causing the pin/keyway to ride along the top of the plate, thus disengaging itself from the impeller! Is there a clip missing that would hold the shaft up a bit higher to engage the impeller? Or has anyone tried maybe drilling another hole 1/4” or so higher to insert a pin so it engages the impeller properly? The new plate is ruined after only a few short moments of running the motor! Ideas??? Thanks

Internal snap ring #301883 is missing from the pinion gear in lower unit. It supports the drive shaft at proper height.

from a qd16 parts diag

bummer :-( but now you can take the chance to replace any seals .. prop drive & shift while the GC is open
change the spaghetti .... and find that retainer clip if somewhere in the GC

weird ain't it ... did you pull out the drive shaft while doing pump work ??

and pressure tests the GC after reassembly see utubes

Thought it could be something like that! Haven’t taken anything else apart but will give that a shot tomorrow! Guess I’ll be ordering a bunch of parts! Thanks!

Finally got around to taking the bottom end apart to look for said clip! Nowhere to be found! Probably why the guy sold it to me in the first place for cheap! Will order all that’s needed, including the seals as quite a bit of water was in the gears! I’ll keep you posted!
