Just unpacked my old Sea Horse that I put in storage back in 1975 and need to get it running for an upcomming trip. Back then it ran great and looks almost like new. What should I do as far as maintenance. Change plugs anything else. It has good compression. Also would like to find out what year it is. I had bought it used in 1973. It is a Johnson Sea Horse 5.5HP Model CD12 S/N 1319819. All help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks "One More Cast". I see you are from the backwoods of upstate New York. Can you recommend anybody that does that work on older models somewhat close to the area 40 miles west of Albany. I would try it but need to use it in about a month and I currenty have too may irons in the fire. Thanks Bob

I have a '56 Johnson 5.5, sat in friends basement for 15 years. after checking everything, it usually starts after one pull, and "trolls at approximately 1.2 m/p/h, My fish finder tells me my speed. I love this thing :)

Re: Johnson Sea Horse 5.5 Questions

sorry Bob, i'm a ways north of you. If your motor was put away corectly it may start right up and run fine as tallcar states.I have a 1962 wards (built by omc) 5.5 that sat in dry storage for a long time and all it needed was coils replaced due to dry cracked insulation.put it in a barrel of water and give her a try.
