I finally got the tank to work. had to use a bike tube to make the bladder to try motor.
once i got the motor running, i ran it for about an hour in a tank.
i ended up with a lot of oily resedue in the tank after i was finished.
i couldnt see the in water at all.
is this normal for an older motor.
i have 87 4.5 merc that doesnt leave near as much gunk on water.
is there anything to do to cut down on water pollutant.
used mixture of 50:1 with synthetic marine oil from penzoil.

It's not uncommon to get goo & crud in the water when running in a tank.

I'm not familiar with the syn lubes. A lot of these old motors, the ratio was/is 24:1 so good chance that your washing out the old crud & oil from the exhaust.

Might want to replace water & try again to see if it runs any cleaner.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

TenE307
Might as well go ahead and decarb it now that you got her going. Then run the 24:1 Mix after that. What you see in the water is normal after running for an hour in a tank.

i was wondering if how you run the motor,
leaner or richer on the high and low speed adjusments.
make a difference on how much gunk is in water.
the leaner the less amount of gunk?

Hi TenE
These older models should run a 24:1 mix. There is going to be lots of goo floating on the top of the tank. Any 2stroke motor will do this. The older motors will even slime your transome on your boat. To answer your question, yes, you can make the sliming somewhat less with a properly adjusted carb and tuned motor. On a calm day you should have a nice waft of blue smoke and a light trail of oil bubbles while trolling down the lake.
