Hello everyone. I have just purchased a old boat and motor, can't wait to get it out on the lake, but.......I need to get a manual for service and repair.....so could someone tell me what year this old fellow is.. model# RD-170 serial# 1262297<br />Johnson Seahorse 25, had a little trouble finding that much, but I did by the clamp to the transom,<br />see I am even learning the boat part names Thanks to these sites. I had to get an old pressure tank and not cheap I might add, then I want to do a check here at home, Any help would be apreciated<br />Thanks!

Howdy, Fleur,<br /><br />Welcome to the board.<br /><br />Your engine is a 1955 25 hp.<br /><br />Plugs should be Champion J6J or modern Champion equivalent, gapped at .030. Set points at .020.<br /><br />Fuel mix is 24:1. One qt. good, TC-W3 outboard oil to 6 gallons of 87 octane unleaded, alcohol free gasoline.<br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks JB, how kind of you, say I have another question if you don't mind.....when i get my pressurized tank in the mail this week and hook it up. do I need to pump it up before trying the motor? I know it has a little black button do I pump it that way, and how will i know when it is enough? oh I think it is a 4 gallon tank, so what would that ratio for oil to gas be?<br /> once again thank you

Hi, Fleur.<br /><br />Yes. You need pressure in the tank before starting up. Pump the button until you feel increased resistance.<br /><br />Perfect fuel mix in a 4 gallon tank would be 20 oz. of oil, 1-1/4 pint, but I think you will get a 6 gallon tank.<br /><br />Good luck.
