My neighbor gave me the motor, he said it runs but smokes quite a bit.
I tried starting it the other day and I broke the recoil spring.

Is this a 1958 motor?
Is the recoil spring difficult to replace?

Thanks.

It is a 1958. Recoil spring is not hard to replace, I could do it in 15 minutes, easy. It may take you a tad longer. Just be careful, that thing can jump out at you like a rattlesnake and bite.

Yea, those JW-14's are sweet little motors. I sold one earlier this year after I refurbished it. They smoke a lot, because they do call for a little extra oil. That model should be mixed with 8oz of oil to each gallon, which is 16:1.

Does this little bugger have the lower cowl with it and everything? Getting one of those totally complete is a plus. A lot of guys here like those little motors, as do I.:D

Same spring. Different price. Buy the less expensive one.
