I'll provide a non-technical response to your question about switching lower units -- because I am a non-technical hobbyist.

You may indeed be able to simply substitute the longshaft lower unit. Carefully look at the shape of the leg of each motor. The top of the housing extension from the longshaft must mate perfectly with with bottom of the housing on the working motor. In addition, the driveshaft splines (number of splines) must match along with the water tubes and the shift rod/shift rod connection. If you remove the leg from each motor and compare them, you should be able to figure out if the exchange will work.

If you remove the leg, I suggest you replace the impeller at that time (on whichever leg you end up using).

Re: Johnson seahorse 9.5 help

Please do not attempt these things without a manual. There are a lot of them right now on e-bay.It is probably your best investment.
If you try these changes and repairs through online advice you may find out the hard way that some people have great theories and poor mechanical advice, which they love to share.
It is a safe idea to have a 6 gallon fuel tank on your boat, because it allows you to make a mistake or two. However it seems to me that your engine is using up too much fuel too quickly.I dont even burn up 2 1/2 gallons with my 35 in four hours. You may want to set your carburator a bit leaner.
Good luck.

Hello.
Sorry for being so haughty.
Impellers are easily gotten, but for some reason I cannot fathom, they are very expensive anywhere in the European union. You can have one sent across the pond for a less than it will cost you there.Try some of the I-boat dealers here on the site. It should cost you give or take about $15 US.While you set the new impeller in the pump housing do not forget to turn your driveshaft clock wise while tightening the bolts.
The reason why you cannot get your lower unit off is that there is a rod that connects your gear shift to the lower unit.I do not know how to disconnect it on your engine, but there are plenty of people here who do know.
Good luck.
