I have a 9.5 HP and 5.5 Johnson Sea Horse in need of repair/parts but am unable to determine year of manufacture after link chasing in many forums. It is Model # 922M / Serial no. J 13053 (9.5 HP) and the 5.5 HP's serial no. is J 2314522 with no model no. info due to plate missing. The 5.5 is not a pressurized tank version and is white/cream in color. I wish to buy a manual for them but without further info I find this difficult. Thanks

I found a 9222 and 9223 both 71' 9.5. Have you checked the blocks of both engines for a large welch plug? This plug will have the model numbers on them also.

The 5.5 likely late 50's early 60's.

Thank OBj. yes i checked the blocks but the 5.5 only list the serial and not the model on the plug unlike the 9.5 which has both and an external plate on the engine mount.

Re: Johnson Seahorse

The serial number of the 5.5 puts it fairly close to '62. So probably '61 or '62. Have a look at the pictures over at www.old-omc.de and see if you can ID it for sure. You can check on that 9.5hp there as well. If you have some doubts, try posting a couple pics.
The 9.5hp model number comes in around 1970. I think OBJ is probably right.

One Iboats member has a FD-21 marked as a FD-12. I think they gave the model number stamping job to the new guy.
