Ok im New here and to boats I have one and dont know what year it is so im how to find part if you guys could help me out to find out Wat year it is

Hi tj. Looks like you've got a 1959 model 5.5-18 hp (can't read the decal). Looks like it's probably a 10 or 18 hp (I'm guessing it's an 18 hp by the size). Great motors! I had a '61 QD-22 10 hp that was great and I have a '66 FD-20C 20 hp (same basic motor as the 18 hp), and I love 'em both. Well worth the effort if the compression is still good. There are still tons of parts available, many of which are interchangeable with model years before and after yours. Virtually all of the parts you need for routine maintenance you can get right here at iboats. You can usually replace every consumable part on these old gems and get them running like a top for less than $100. About the only weak spots on them are the clutch dogs on the 10 hp (less so on the 18 hp), which can/do wear down over time (they are 50 + years old after all), otherwise they're pretty bullet proof. Here are some great links to get you started. They aren't for your exact model, but all the steps are the same. That's we love the old mid '50s-early '70s OMC motors so much. Once you can fix a 3 hp kicker motor, you can fix everything up to a 35 hp "Big Twin", primarily because they are just larger and smaller versions of each other. Thank you and yes it is a 18 HP I AF it running like 6 yrs ago but never really did much to get it running

Can I get the steering components from a 65 and have it work on this my boat was set up for a steering wheel and throttle but was taken out and I would like to put it back

Sure tj, settin up controls is easy. Just check ebay and/or aomci for vintage OMC controls and you'll find all kinds of stuff. You'll need two special fittings for the end of each cable, one for the throttle, one for the shifter. They're readily available online. You'll then need two cables. You can get new ones right here at iboats. They're identical except for the fitting you put on the end and each attach to the control box in the same manner. As for steering, there are lots of different types of set ups. You can go with the old school "cable and pulley" style, which is a simple mechanical steering mechanism. You can also get a modern rotary system too. Do a search here in the forums and you'll find tons of threads. It's not hard hooking up the remote controls, but it may cost a couple hundred bucks depending on where you get your parts.

Thanks kfa but i dont think im going to I started adding the things together and its not worth it but my gear shifter is broke and I wouldn't mind fixing that maybe someone can help me out and point me in the way

Double-check the part# on the exploded diagram for your engine, available here on iboats; but I think that might be correct.

aomci.org would be a good place to check too. look in the wanted/classifieds. I have and FD-19 parts motor I can check too. I'll let you know what I find. The good news is that it's a pretty basic part so it should be readily available and interchangeable with several other models/years.
