Johnson Service manuals

Ive got a 1986 70 hp johnson vro 70TLCD motor but i cant find a used service manual on ebay for it. I really dont want to pay full price for one from the manufacturer because they are a little pricey. Do any of these service manuals transfer over from year to year? Ive found manuals for a 70 hp 1987 vro, as well as a 1989 and vro's in between. Are they basically the same motor and manual or should i look specifically for the 1986 vro manual? Any help would be greatly appreciated. There's nothing wrong with my motor but im obsessive about having things that go together.

There is no difference in the 86 and 87 models, except of course, the year. The 87 manual will do fine.

Was there any differences in that engine between 86-90? Looking at the engines, they all look the same. 3 cylinders, same cowl, same everything as far as i can see. I origionally thought the motor was a 1989 because thats the year the boat was made but it turned out that the engine is an 86.

there was a fairly significant switch in the motor around 1987-I learned when I replaced a 1988 (original to the boat in 1988) with another that can't be determined exactly but is probably a 1987, best we can tell. But this motor has had a lot of people wrenching on it over the years so it might be a hybrid by now. So I wouldn't go with the 1989; go with the 1987.

Are you sure yours is a 1986? I say this because as I have found, they can be deceiving.

I looked the model year up and it came back as a 1986 according to the johnson website. Its a 70TLCD. The motor is also origional to the boat. Weird though that the boat was made in 1989 but the motor was made in 86.
