I have a johnson "control center" shifter that I am guessing is the same age as the motor, 1975 50 hp and it will not go into reverse. I took the unit apart checked and cleaned and greased everything and it still will not shift into reverse. While in there I also found a broken ground wire that I reconnected, But after 3 hours work and no shifting I did not reattach it back on the boat. As a sidebar this boat is new to me (bought Friday PM) and has no spark. (been chasing that one down too) would the ground wire have any effect on not running? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
