My starter gets stuck up in the flywheel periodically. I have greased it and that helped somewhat, but it still sticks. Any suggestions? Please tell me I do not need a new starter!!!!!

Re: Johnson starter stuck up on flywheel

If you are referring to an electric starter, and you mean the pinion gets stuck engaged to the flywheel, it probably just needs to be oiled. They do periodically.
Just wash the grease off with wd-40 or what-have-you and oil the screw shaped thing the pinion rides on with a light machine oil.
Otherwise, please post model, or hp and year.

KRIS,

Rotate the starter pinion gear by hand. You will notice that it wants to "climb" the shaft.

While rotating back and forth, spray the shaft with WD-40.
