Hi, I have a 50's johnson 35hp super seahorse which is on my 57 Larson Thunderhawk. I'm not sure if it is the original motor or not. The guy I got it from said it used to run in salt water and that he replaced some stuff on it and that he took it for a test run on an 18' boat. I wanted to know what exactly needs to be replaced if going from sea water to fresh water? Also, I would like to get the owners manual for this motor but I don't know how to find the model number. Thanks

The factory ID plate is on the top/front of the transom clamp. Can be hard to see/read if it's still on the boat. From the looks of it, it's probably an RD-19 or RD-20 or RD-21. If you plan on servicing it, get a couple of cans of penetrating oil like PB Blaster and an impact wrench. Soak any nut/bolt you plan to remove overnight with the oil. Otherwise you'll be breaking bolts. The Seloc manual for that era motors is pretty good...they come up pretty often on the auction site.
