How do I disconnect the throttle cables on a 77 55hp johnson without screwing up the settings? Is it easier to take them off the motor or the control box and how do you do it?
Take them off the motor. Don't turn the black plastic trunnion nut and you won't be changing the adjustments. Disconnect is obvious. remove the nut or whatever it has at the end of the black guide and the whatever it has to retain the trunnion nut.
If you do accidentally move the thumb wheels on the adjustment turnbuckles dont sweat it. When you go to reinstall them on the motor just move them fwd or back with thumbwheel until the barrel drops in the slot. It's really easy and you can find the end rod measurements if really think you need them.
