I have a 70 hp johnson sea horse model number J70ELCNB. Heres the problem. Tried to start the motor after sitting for a while. when i put it away i did it properly, ran until out of gas, fogging oil in cylinders. It was stored in the shed off of the boat for about a year. When we removed the motor we had to disconnect the throttle and shift cables and wiring harness. When we did this we labled everything as to where it goes and put tape on the throttle and shift cable thub wheel adjustments at the motor end so as not to move them. Before we took the motor off the boat the motor ran fine and started on the first turn of the key and reved high until the warm up throttle was adjusted and idled normally after that (dont have RPM's just sounds normal) We put the motor back on the boat re-connected all the cables and after sitting for a year it and started after the third turn of the key (not bad right) but instead of reving high and idleing normally after the motor starts and the warm up throttle is adjusted, the motor rev's really high and when you go to adjust the warm up throttle from the start position to the idle position it cuts out after its moved from start, and will not start unless the warm up idle control is in the start position. We did this a couple of times in the yard with the muffs on and took the cowel off and watched the carb and choke linkage and everything look normal. There is a plate that controls the carb linkage and it has 2 marks on it the one on the top says start, and the one on the bottom says nothing. What are these marks for? Any idea what the problem may be? If the thub screw on the cables did move would that matter and if so which way should i adjust them? Should i make the part that hooks to the motor longer or shorter? Gonna put it in the water and work on it this Saturday and i'm looking for some tips on how to fix this problem and help would be much apreciated.
Thanks in advance
