Johnson Trim goes up, will not trim down,

The power (big motor) trim is stuck in the up position, it will trim down with the switch on the motor, but NOT the two switches on the boat itself, it will trim down - but goes right back up by itself... the trim motor quits running when it reached full trim.
Does this sound like a solenoid? or a bad relay...??
I have a tournament this weekend and can NOT fish until this is fixed....HELLLPPPPP!! 3-24- 9:30am

What is the model number or HP and year of your motor?

Swap the relays and see if anything changes.

Also You may want to try disconnecting ine switch at a time to see if one of them is grounding out causing it to give a constant voltage in the up position. I would start at the switch in the boat first. Disconnect the switch and try to operate the tilt/trim by the switch on the motor. If it operates correctly you will know the problem is in the boat switch or relays, and vise versa.

There is a tilt limit switch at the top which is why the motor stops when you reach full tilt.

There is no solenoid in your PT&T system, just the relays.

Let us know what happens when you switch the relays.

You said nothing, just bought new relays.

If switching the relays does not change anything, that usually indicates that the relays are good.

Ok.. I swapped both relays..nothing changed..I bought two new relays.. still the same problem. I disconnected the motor swtich and the bow switch.. still the same problem. All the wires are making connections...and are in the relay holder where they should be.(seated). Have not had time to disconnet the throttle hand switch.. thats next. What else?

i think you have a short in your switches or wiring. Unlug the relays to create an open circuit then use meter to find which leg of wiring is shorted. then trace shorted leg from battery until you find the offending wire, device, or connection.
