What ever happened to these engines? Probably too many problems...neighbor had one and its smoked like a SF fog on startup....

wow. i have a v6 150, and can't even imagine how you could get a gas tank big enough for a v8 300.

OMC was still producing them when they went out of business. They sold them overseas. They did stop selling them in the states.<br /><br />They did use a lot of fuel but not as much as you might think. I replaced a 200 crossflow with a 300XP and burned the same amount of fuel on the same trip even though it burned more per hour. The cruising speed was higher. <br /><br />Great motors.

Mercury used to make a 300HP Black max outboard. I think it wass the first 300HP outboard, and all I can remember about it was its weight was 565 pounds, and someone commented that with that weight, it should be bolted to the stringers of the boat, like a "proper" motor. <br /><br />This was before the days of the large dual (or triple) outboard-driven boats. Anyone know what happened to that motor? Was it a good design? Is it still produced?

I just looked at a Grady White here locally with a 300 Johnny hanging off the back....what a beast!!

A guy was pulling his boat out across from me last night in St. Pete with a Limited Edition Evinrude V8 hanging off the back. It was a 21 foot open fisherman. I was thinking thats gotta really go.

My first V8 (300XP) was on a 19' open Rabco. With a jackplate. <br /><br />Outrun every fish in the bay.
