I just purchased a Bass boat with a Johnson VRO 40HP 2 stroke Model#J40ELCO,Serial#70151** and the prop is pretty banged up. Its 12X1/2 13 and i dont beleive its the original and i would prefer to replace it for better performance. I currenty max out a 4000 rpm full throttle and i'm a novice when it comes to boats as this is my very 1st. i'm alos intrestedin a way to keep the trolling motor battery recharged with some kind of charger so i'm able to stay out longer instead of the battery dying. any idea's would be great.

That's a 1985 engine, MYTJC.

Your low WOT rpm could be caused by the banged up prop. Look in Engine FAQs for prop selection advice.

I think that engine has an alternator which should charge your battery when running.

You might take your battery question to the Electrics forum. Be sure to post details on your battery and your troller.

Good luck, and welcome aboard. :)

Unless you make long runs (many miles) at WOT, the tolling battery will receive very little help from the alternator on that engine.

I think the alternator puts out a whopping 4 amps.
