I had a 71 Johnson 85hp. I imagine they are the same, although I never installed a water pressure gauge, I do know these motors are supposed to have a thermostat in them. Since they don't have a "tell-tale" stream coming out the back like a Mercury does, I could have appreciated the device. <br /><br />It seems to be by just plain logic that it would need to be installed prior to the thermostat, between the water pump and thermo, just because if the theromostat closes you're not gonna have much water pressure coming out the back. <br /><br />I'd find the raw water line coming up from the lower unit where it enters the powerhead area under the cowl and put it there. However, I can't tell you where that is, its been too long! All I remember were the two lines coming off the cylinder heads in the back right now.
