Johnson 'Wet' Engine recovery advice

My neighbor just brought over his grandads 15 hp Johnson that had been sitting.
I pulled the plugs and water drained from cylinders, Not good.
I would expect a (perhaps very) short lifespan is now the fate for being in this condition.
Now what.
Carb off, mineral spirits down the intake, and try to flush thru the crankcase , shake ,and then out piston and cylinders?
Then repeat, and then follow up with a light oil flush?
Then , if I can get it to run, light duty, ( with a back-up motor) burning double oil mix?

Anybody out there every save a motor that had been 'wet'?
Any useful help appreciated. Marlin

Sitting - where? If it has spent time with water in it, you can pretty much guarantee it has bearing damage and the motor is not likely to stay together should you manage to get it running.

Any hope of salvaging this motor rests in a complete disassembly and replacing any rusted or pitted bearings.

Thanks , that is sound advice. Operation before terminal failure.
I pulled the plugs, laid her plug side down over a half-barrel made her say AHHH and poured premix thru her a few times.
Then rotated flywheel and douced out the other side. Gonna let this bird sit for it's owner to choose it's fate.
Glad it ain't mine.

I'll add back to this post later as to the decision and outcome.

If it never rust-locked, has adequate compression, spins freely w/no weird noises - why not fire it up and see how it runs? A bit of extra oil in the mix for first run would be good.
