Hey guys,

I just bought a real nice Johnson 9.9. The guy told me it was a '76 model year. Can someone confirm that for me?

The model # is 10R74G, and the Ser# is E3962948

Thanks

Re: Johnson year ID

David is spot on, it's a 1974 model. This numbering/year system was scrapped in 1979/80.

Re: Johnson year ID

Thanks guys.

And don't worry. I'm a smart ***** myself, so I didn't take offense. That's what I thought about the year, but I thought I'd ask since the guy told me it was a '76, and I wanted to make sure before I went any further.

This brings my next question, for which I may need to do another post.

I have been researching the whole 9.9 to 15 HP conversion. Does it work, does it not... Is it worth it... Everything i see conflicts. What's the real story?

hey johnnyb563,

since i havent seen a new thread i would assume you havent made one yet.

i would.

ive seen this discussed and as far as i can remember it is possible but i dont remember all the exchanges made to up the horsepower.

ive got 2 smaller motors a '74 9.8 merc and a '64 18 evinrude and some say there not much difference in the performance but i disagree. when im loaded down, in my alluminum boats one for creek jumpin and one for huntin, with gear and a buddy i can tell a BIG difference between the 2

good luck!
