johnson year question and part question?

i have a johnson 15hp seahorse i think its an 83' not sure though model is
j15rcta

anyone who can confirm this for me? i need a new recoil/pull start unit if anyone has any info on where i could find that too it'd be greatly appreciated...

What's the problem? That has a pretty simple starter. I would think it'd be cheaper to fix it than replace it.

well its not that itd be cheaper im pretty sure if i got a new spring i might be stylin. but if its cheap i guess id by the whole unit spring, cup and gears.

Those recoil starters intimidate many who have had them fly apart in their faces, Vickersfan. You need the OEM Service Manual to do it right and safely.

I bet a Service Manual and any necessary parts would be cheaper than a replacement unit.

thanks fellas,

i confirmed the year with that johnson evinrude chart that decodes the model number and indeed it is an 83 and the parts list was very handy from ezeke thanks for both links. i should now be able to find that spring pretty easily now that i have the part numbers. if anyone is interested in johnson parts and diagrams that link is awesome...
