Hi
Someone is selling a 20feetboat year 1977 with a Johnson 144hp year1977, the owner told me that it is in great running condition. What risk can i take with a engine & boat this old in working conditions??

is there anything good to know about these engines, the is guy asking $3000 for the whole thing. Trailer is in great condition looks like aluminum.

will wait for a response thanks you all.

1st think you are talking about a '77 140hp, it is base on the good ole V4 omc motor. with proper maintainance, they can run forever. check compression, spark, lower unit for water. insist on a test run. not just running it on muffs in the driveway. if this check out i would be more concerned about the boat. soft spots in the floor, weak transom. stand on the flat plate of the motor and bounce up and down, watch the transom for any flexing. take a rubber mallot, and tap all around the transom, thud is rotted wood, tap is good wood. as far as price goes, need more info on the boat.

follow the steps, nice rig, $3000 in Florida would be a good price.
