i have a 1960 johnson rds22 it has a compression relief head on it well i have to change the releif valves in the head i have 2 new ones but the rubber o-ring that goes on the stem to seal the small hole are not on these new valves one of the old valves has one but it is real hard so what kind of o-ring is it and do i really need it on the valve a boat dealer near me said go to a auto parts store or a hardwere store hope some one can help me please

The OMC/Bombardier part number of those "O" Rings is 304598 and they are still available thru your local dealership.<br /><br />I would assume that your dealer's books do not go back that far which would prevent him from knowing that part number. Get him to order a couple for you..... a couple dollars each.
