I am in the process of buying a 30 hp 2004 Johnson with an extended warranty to 2011. My question is simple: Did johnson motors go out of business and does evinrude take over all warranty work?

Johnson is a name brand owned by Bombardier, like Dodge is a brand name owned by Daimler/Chrysler. The Johnson name still exists, though it may be going the way of Plymouth. Bombardier will still honor the warranty. If Evinrude is the brand name that survives the Johnson brand name, then I guess the simple answer to your question in Yes.
