Jon boat fuel line route

Hello everyone, I have a 1983 16/52 jon boat. My 6 gallon fuel tank will not fit in the aft between the rear bench and transom due to the bracing. I’ve been running with the tank in front of the bench. Weight is good the boat runs fine with it there. Problem is I’m having to run the fuel line over the bench which I made in so storage with three cushioned seats with hinges. It’s a pain when I have to watch a guest to make sure they don’t pinch the line when opening the seat. As well as thinking about it myself.
I’m rewiring the entire boat and everything is in the starboard portion of the bench. Battery, fuse block switch panel.
I want to cut a hole and run the fuel line through there which is the uscg A-1. I was given a suggestion to run it through sch 40 pvc pipe that’s secured. Also make it large enough for the fuel connector to pass through Incase of an emergency. That makes it 1 1/2” pipe.
I think it’s a good suggestion and worth thinking about. I also think I’d like to find someone else that has done this or knows more than I do about the subject. I inspect the entire fuel system regularly. And would be able to pull the hose out of the pipe anytime I want to look at it. There’s no connections between the tank fitting and fuel water separator so it’s only the hose to worry about.
Am I taking a chance? Is it possible for fumes to get into the compartment doing this? I also have vent holes In the bench.
Any suggestion, opinions or other wise are greatly appreciated.

A 6 gallon tank won’t fit?? I find that hard to believe. Wish I could help you.
My 1442 fits a steel or plastic one with room to spare, and it also has bracing.
I keep an extra tank just forward of the middle bench but don’t feed gas from there.

It’s a wide boat too but the braces on both sides of the motor are in the way. It does fit in the middle in front of the outboard. But I have to get on my knees on the bench and twist and turn the tank completely on it’s side to get it down there. I don’t think I can safely do it with a full tank of fuel.

run a piece of pvc pipe down the gunwale.

take a section of hose and run it down the PVC pipe. now splice it in for your fuel line. with the bulb back by the motor.

I have wiring running in the grove under the top of the ribs. Have planned on running a led light strip under the top of the gunwale. If I can attach the pvc under the top of the gunwale I could adhere the lights to it for that small stretch I guess. I’ll need to check and see if it’ll be in the way of lifting the seat. Otherwise it’s a great idea and an easy do. My fuel line I put in first thing when I got the boat goes from the motor to primer bulb to fuel water separator the to the tank. All I would need to do is remove the tank fitting and feed it through the pipe and walla. Since I’m having to keep the portable tank in front of the seat I’m going to build a small table out of some aluminum I have that attaches to the gunwale that won’t be to high so it can shade the tank. The cutting board for bait can go on top. The whole thing will be removable or able to fold. Probably removable for cleaning. I have some aluminum knurled bolts that you tightened and loosen by hand as well. They’ll screw into aluminum Rivnuts I think I can install in one or two ribs. Since I don’t get my wish for the tank to stop taking up space there I may as well make it usable space. I may attach it to the bench I’m not crazy about putting holes in the ribs. Besides I may need the room for the new rod carrie. It’s going to go down the same side since I have rod holder mounts all down the other side. Be a good place for a cup holder or two also I haven’t put any of those anywhere yet. I’ll just be glad when I hit the water soon. It started with the fuel system then the motor and turned into a Jon boat rebuild. It’s being set up mainly for catfish and striper drift fishing day or night. Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. That’s one of those why haven’t I thought of that. I’ve been caught up in the rewiring and adding stuff as I go. Almost fin with this phase so I can stop and enjoy it a while.

That’s what I need is two three gallo but if the wife ever sees how much I’m spending on it already one of these post will be my last because I’m living in the boat and it doesn’t have internet.

I can’t fit anything between that seat and the gunwale. The rear bench is storage and electrical. I made 3 seats w cushions and attached them across the bench with hinges. Thanks again for the idea though. I’m going to focus on the wiring and other absolutes for now to get the boat back in the water and worry about comfort stuff later.
