Johnson 6R-69M 6HP Seahorse
Long story short, I want to (have to) put a seat on the rear bench on my 12' semi vhull so i'll have a back that works after a day of fishing. The problem is, the bench is real close to the outboard, so, if there is a seat there, the tiller hits it thus making turning and throttling challenging. This made me look into stick steering. Which seems like a completely fun project. Consider it done. Then, the throttle issue came up.
After enough researching and driving myself nuts for a solution, I learned there was a complete conversion kit for these motors using a control box johnson made.
As you all probably know, these things ARE NOT CHEAP. $200+ on ebay. Unfortunately, i'm too cheap. I see the cables are affordable, but its the control box and the little adapters that may present a challenge. Eitherway, I dont mind (and infact love) engineering things to work.
Since i'm in the back of the boat anyway, I don't mind using the shift lever on the actual outboard. So I just need something to control the throttle. Is there a universal "control box" out there that won't break the bank that I can buy, attach the shift cables to, and rig it to work on the outboard? Or can you think of any alternatives to a control box that can be used with the cable?
