Hey Guys -

I still lurk - but I don't post much anymore. :)

I live in one of those HOA communities that's getting a lot of attention in other recent posts. The community has several small ponds and the HOA is building a "fishing pier" on one of the ponds which I think is really great.

I'd like to approach the HOA and see if they would be willing to sponsor an annual junior fishing competition. I'd be willing to bet they would be interested but I think it would be up to me to run the thing. The problem is, I haven't been in a fishing competition since I was in a junior competition when I was 12 years old or so... I do remember it was a TON of fun though - and I still have my trophies! :)

Does anyone have experience running one of these things? Do you have a set of rules or guidelines you could share with me? I'm just trying to gauge how much effort it would take to do something like this (one person job, 5 person job) to see if it's even worthwhile to talk to the HOA about it.

Things I'm most concerned with is:

* How do you keep tabs on who catches what? (It needs to be catch and release)
* Do you win by overall fish length or weight?
* How long should the competition go for?
* It would be nice if everyone who participated was a winner ... not sure if that's possible though.
* Should there be age groups?
* Restrictions on # of lines in the water?

Any tips?

Thanks, guys!

Our Mobile home park runs one every year, we have only our marina that we allow them to fish in so let fishing in only 1 pond, it goes on length, 2 hours to fish, one top prise for 3 age groups, 5 and under, 6 to 9, and 10 to 13. We follow state law for Ohio which is allow 2 lines but you can say 1 line limit. Everyone gets a bobber or bobbers, hooks, and split shot just for fishing.
