Evinrude 150 89'. I just replaced the starter solenoid and the ignition switch. Still can't get engine to turnover. I do have a service manual but it doesn't reference the kill switch. Does any one know how I can jump it or test it. The switch has three wires 2 black with yellow and one solid black. If I don't find a bad kill swith I will rip into the control an test the neutral switch. Thanks

Re: jump kill switch

Kris...the solid black wire goes to ground....inside the control box.....I think....can't remember right of hand, but it does go to ground. The switch stays open until the "key" is pulled. This closes the switch and grounds out the power packs.

Hope this helps a little.... :)

The kill switch will not stop it from turning over. It just "kills" the spark.

Ok thanks. That rules out the kill switch as the culprit. I guess I will pull the sontrols apart a look for a neutral switch. Any other suggestions?

OOPs! Yeah..what Dhadley said. Thought if wouldn't start.

If you can jump 12V to the small terminal on the solenoid and get it to crank, and you've replaced the ignition switch, then do test the neutral sw.

I will be at it again tomorrow. I hope I can post a question about a funky puff of smoke or choke soon...not being able to turn over is ridiculous and frustrating:)

A thought. Check the fuse in the engine compartment. It's by the starter selonoid.

Re: jump kill switch

All,
Good news. We have lift off. After replacing the ignition switch and the solenoid i still couldn't turn it over. I then jumped the neutral switch and bingo....I almost fell off the boat. There is a "sweet spot" on the throttle. I want to open up the binnacle control and replace or adjust the neutral switch but the manual doesn't reference this type of control. Can I remove the cables at the control? Is the neutral switch replaceable? Thank for all the help....so far.
