1957 35hp Lark. Just tuned, new ignition, seals and water pump. Took it out today, started fine, ran strong, during a turn at WOT, it popped out of gear. i backed off and got some forward motion at lower speed. Tried again, same thing. Jumped out of gear. Took it home and removed the cable linkage. Marked the lever positions for R - N- F. Any suggestions for correcting this?

Did it seem like you hit a log?

If you're sure that the remote controls are holding it in forward and there's no slop in the linkage then you have a worn clutch dog and continued use will shred the forward gear also. They are not cheap to buy new so you will want to look for used gear/dog or a used lower unit.

Re: jumped out at WOT

I think we may be dealing with a "spun prop"... I have never had one before, but, I can rotate the fins of the prop and the shear pin stays in the same position. Can this be repaired? or am I in Buy new prop mode... Let me know.

Thanks,

Tom
