Well you need to make sure the battery can take a charge and that you have a good groud. Normally jumping from vehicle to vehicle if you dont have a good ground you get the same reaction. I would suggest putting your battery on a charger for awhile vs. trying to jump it. If battery is good it should give it enough charge to get you going.

Re: Jumping an outboard from car battery help

If you are doing this with the battery still in the truck start the truck first then allow that to charge the boat battery for a bit then try. Provided you have got some charge into the boat battery that will supply most of the current for starting. Otherwise the problem is getting really good low resistance connections with jump leads that will pass the high starter current.

Take care connecting and disconnecting jump leads as just a little spark can ignite the hydrogen gas given off by the battery. Follow the instructions for using the jump leads if possible but in any case the last connection made and the first connection broken should be away from the battery itself.

Successful jumping a boat is no different than jumping a car, i.e good source battery, good connections, good jumpers; repeat - good source battery, good connections, good jumpers.

if you have a dead cell in the boat battery it will steal the power. have boat battery load tested at the auto parts store, usually free.
