Jumping out of gear again

I recently replaced the forward gear, clutch dog and prop shaft in my 28hp 1962 Johnson outboard. Now after about 10 hours use it has started jumping out of gear again. Could it be a linkage problem as I hoping it’s not a gearbox problem .I have noticed that when first getting up on the plan the motor seemed jump very slightly as if the gears where becoming fully engaged .This would happen a few seconds after loading up the motor and then would run without any other problems until today. I’m not sure what the problem could be and would appreciate any advice

Regards Kevin

Possible linkage. But you need to fix the problem, whatever it is, right away. Every time it jumps, it is damaging those new parts you've put in there.

The shift linkage seems to be working fine with plenty of travel so it looks like I will have to strip the gearbox to find the problem.I think it my be time to up grade

Actually, "most" or "some" Morse controls have optional holes to install the cable in. That can be an advantage.

BTW, one of the worst things you can do is be gentle with the shift. Easing it into gear makes it clatter and each time it makes that sound, it is beating away at the dog and gear faces. You need to make sure it idles as slow as possible, and shift with a quick snappy movement.
