Just a thought.

I posted a thread dealing with my 1975 Evinrude 25hp. My forward gear keeps popping out. I was wondering if it would be feasable to get a reverse spinning prop? Would reverse hold the torque? At this point it might be cheaper than paying/ finding a forward gear.

No. Reverse gear is not designed to take the thrust and pressure put on the forward gear. My advice would be to repair the lower unit correctly and go from there. If you ever find a "reverse spinning prop" for that mtr, let us know.

Have you taken the gearcase apart and inspected the gears/clutch dog? You may be able to get by with just a new clutch dog.

Re: Just a thought.

If the clutch dog is bad most likely the fwd gear is too. Most of the time when they jump both are worn. Do them both, put new seals in and hopefully no more g/c repairs. One more thing, make sure there is no slop in your shift linkage.
