Hey Guys and Gals,
I know we don't allow buying/selling in the open forums, but here's a thought about that may lead to a few other things.
How about adding to the Iboats forums a "members only premium section".
I belong to a Subaru forum that does something similar, in fact that's where I got the idea.
Here's the sales pitch.
Establish a members only premium section that regular users cannot access until they have Premium Status. Or, maybe regular users could access it but only as "read only" and cannot post to it.
In the premium section, we would have a classifieds section for premium users. Or at the very least premium users would be allowed to link to personal ebay/craigslist links.
The classifieds could be for boat parts, accessories, or whole boats.
If selling whole boats, iboats could have a listing fee and or % of sale price fee to list it here on the site.
The Premium section could be where we pass around some of our super secret documents (if you know what I mean) that some of us have and share that are not published anymore in the general section.
The Premium section could be used for group buys or Iboats could charge vendors to place an advertisement for special deals in the premium section.
To gain access to the premium section could be done in 1 many ways.
1. By post count. This will keep out spam, 2 post newbs, etc.
2. Subscribtion fee payable via paypal. The Subaru forums i'm on charges 5 bucks a month unless you have a certain post count. Again, to keep out spam and junk.
3. By invitation only should you meet post count criterea.
Just a thought guys, if done correctly Iboats could setup a little marketplace of itself withing the forums. Of course it would require some logistics and moderation, but that's where you guys come in.
