New to the boating world, new to the site. Just bought me a 1993 Bayliner classic. Has the mercruiser 3.0. 18 footer. Have taken it out twice so far and it runs good. But takes foreverrr to get on plane. Wot rpms get to 4500-4600. Unsure on speed since the speedometer isn’t working and didn’t think to use gps speed. The prop that is on it has “eo-le-1417” which is looking to be a 14 diameter with a 17 pitch aluminum prop. It gets going good speed once on plane but takes a long time to get there. So what I’m looking for is what I need to change to do that way I can get on plane quicker. Eventually wanna use it to pull a person or two on a tube. Any help is appreciated! And I look forward to enjoying this site more!

4 blade prop will increase hole shot, you get on plane faster and stay there at lower speeds.. you will lose about 1-2 mph top end speed. if your running a 17p now.. rule of thumb is when going to a 4 blade, drop 1 or or 2.. So a 16 or 15P 4 blade will serve you well... I use to have a 3.0 20 ft cuddy,, slow and painful getting out of the hole, put a 15p 4 blade on it,, huge difference.. was the ticket.. good luck

Does the drive go completely down? If the drive is partially in the trimmed up position that will cause the boat to have problems getting up to plane .

A vented prop will help immensely, as it will unload the engine upon acceleration.

you need to find out what you engine's WOT Rpm range is. Being from the early 90s, it might be 4200 - 4600, newer engine were 4400 - 4800.

move your beer cooler forward. and if you have everyone sitting in back, move one or two to the bow.

based on the RPM's your pitched correctly. however the 3.0 is a bit small for an 18' boat. and if everyone is sitting in back it will take a while to get on plane

you will need to drop down to a 15 pitch for skiing and tubing. I kept a 15P, 17P and 19P prop in my 3.0 powered 16'-5" long boat at all times. with the 19P it would take a while to get on plane, however I could hit 40mph.

Perfect I will look into a 15p. That’s a 3 blade right? What about diameter? Does it have to be the same exact as the one on it now which is 14 1/4” or would I be ok going to a slightly larger one?
