Just purchased a 1978 StarCraft Chieftain IV 18 with a 140 hp mercruiser I/O. I been reading the forums here for a while now and figured I should post my new boat and see what you all think. I bought it from the second owner ( first being this guys father), hasnt ran in 3 years and hasnt seen the lake in 4 years but looks solid. I have owned several boats before, all fiberglass cabin cruisers and this will be my first aluminum hulled boat. So I will post some pics and you guys let me know if I should restore it or just sell it. If I keep it does that mean I'm a member of the Starcraft Cult... I am mean club, I do also have a 1984 Starcraft pop up tent trailer if that qualifies. Let me know and here are some pictures to protect me from the mob. :D

Well you don't have to keep it to be in the cult, you're in now, Starcraft guys are just odd?? :D :D

Nice looking boat (for a tinny), as far as should you keep or sell, well only you can answer that.

Congrats! Always room for another member of the Starmada.

We can't help you if you sell it, so I think you should keep it.

There. That's all settled. Whew.

Have you poked at the wood yet?
Have you tried to fire up the motor yet?
What are your plans man?

Yeah I already had 3 offers today alone on it (parked at my business), but I cant bring myself to sell it, its just way to cool.

I poked at the transom when I got it and couldnt find any rot, I'll have to pull the cap to see if original or not. The floor looks original, missing the carpet and it bows slightly when stepping on it but I planned on replacing it out of boredom and to get experience. Rest of wood was solid.

I sprayed each cylinder down with wd40 and let it sit overnight and hooked a battery to it today and turned it over but noticed it was out of fuel, more on that later.

Based on what I've been reading, I need to restore and post lots of pictures to keep everyone happy, plus I like to spend all my money on stuff I dont need. Plus I only paid $400 for the boat and trailer so I can't lose.

By the way nice Islander, you got a steal on that one.

Holy smokes, that rig is sweet! Nice score!:D

The upholstery is a little hard to look at but she has great bones buddy!

You get that Merc up and running that would be pretty awesome.:)

Uh, we aren't a cult man. Not sure where you get that idea from.

pssst, sasquatch....

one of the guys will show you the secret hand shake and I'll pm you the password to get into Thursday night Starcraft brohood meetings with cigars and cookies, later bro
