just bought 1993 evinrude 25 hp, been sitting for 6 years...help with things to do

hi guys... i think i lucked out... bought 25hp evinrude...add online said 1988...its really 1993... looks to be in beautiful shape, very clean, greased ports, joints, etc... i checked compression before i bought it...125 in both cylinders. let some oil out... black... but been sitting for 5 years. bought for 280.00...worried that once ii got it home... i'd been had...well...threw 2 new plugs in...started first pull... had muffs on it... BUT i didn't see any water coming out water pump indicator...shut it down quickly. i wondered if maybe muffs were not enough to pull water up thru...i am gonna put a new impeller in and check the thermostat... anything else i should do? tx guys..

Replace the impeller, change the lower unit oil, check fuel filter screen, check and replace fuel lines if necessary. You should probably go ahead and overhaul the carb, after sitting that long there's bound to be some trash in there.
If you are going to repair and maintain youe engine, go ahead and order the factory manual for it, make sure and use your model number to get the correct manual.

all lines and hoses look brand new... wonder if the impeller is just stuck... but will find out tomorrow. thx for the advice... carb cleaning i am a little tentative doing... never done it before... have to youtube or something...tx
