Ok I bought this boat from a marina where it was used as a ski rental boat, and it has the scratces and scrapes to prove it..LOL!! But the price was right and I like it. but I have no manual or anything for it, I installed an old evinrude outboard and don't know what wire runs the tachometer, there are about 10 wires going into the tach, which is also the temp, oil, etc...warning lights. And the other question is, the boat has an ignition switch in the dash, I don't need it, and there is no key for it (the key is on the throttle) but the gas gauge doesn't seem to work, I don't know if I need the key to make it work or what to do, the dash lights all work when I put the nav/anc switch on but the gauge just stays in the same position all the time, how do I test it or run alternate power to it as to bypass the ignition switch....?? I know it is a resistance type of gauge but this thing also has about 4 wire posts on it also and I have no idea which one does what besides the ligh power post and the ground????
any help appreciated
Thanks

Re: Just bought 1997 spirit 170 have questions

I have a 1996 manual for this same boat, and it has no useful information. Just general boating tips and a diagram showing how passenger weight should be distributed. My boat (1996) has the ignition in the dash, so I can't help you there. It is a nice little boat-OK to fish a bit, and you can bring the family out for a ride fairly comfortably. Good Luck!

Hey appreciate you looking, I was really hoping for a wiring diagram, my luck I bought a boat from a manufacturer that closed shop.... Do like the boat so far though, hear alot of people say they are just not built as heavy as other boats are, well with the price of gas I am glad the boat is lightweight, easy to pull and get away with a smaller motor on the boat and it runs like most boats with 50 more horsepower.
