Re: Just bought a Suzuki dt65..service? year??
Could be a 1989. The listing on brownspoint.com does not show a 91.........
serial number. 90....... is shown. These models have an oiling system built in with an oil tank on the motor.
First check compressions. These should be in excess of 100PSI and even across the cylinders. While you are doing this you can check for spark at each plug.
If all is well then check the gear shifting works and is smooth. Remove the lower unit oil plug and drain the oil. Check for water in the oil. This is evidenced by a milky looking oil. Check for metal in the oil by rubbing a little oil between finger and thumb. A magnet in the oil flow will do the job well.
If all is well then the lower should be pulled. The driveshaft splines sometimes freeze in the crankshaft. Set the lower aside to be fitted with a new pump impeller and fresh oil before refitting. Any scoring on the pump housing or base plate necessitates replacement.
The carbs will need to be cleaned and new kits fitted.
The fuel pump will most likely need to be rebuilt.
Plugs should be replaced.
Once the motor is in a runnable condition run it on 50:1 and go thru the procedure for checking the oiling system.
This routine will show up most, if any, problems with the motor.
If you plan to do this work yourself don't attempt it without a Manual.
The DT 65 has a great track record as with most Suzuki's.
Good luck.
