I finally bought a brand new outboad engine, I will pick it up from the dealer in a few weeks here and I was wondering about oil.

It is a 2 stroke oil injected 40 hp, I would like to use Amsoil in this since I want this engine to last a LONG time.

Should I use Tohatsu oil instead? This is a hot issue I know...

Thanks-

Did you buy a carbed 40 hp, or the TLDI 40hp?
If you got the TLDI, you might want to read this info from the Nissan(Tohatsu) website.

TLDI outboards should only be run using TCW3 oil specifically formulated for use in Direct Injection motors. Standard TCW3 oil is not recommended for use in TLDI outboards. The following oils have been tested by our factory and certified for use in TLDI motors:

Nissan Marine Premium Oil

Tohatsu Premium Oil

Pennzoil Complete Marine Synthetic

Pennzoil Semi-Synthetic Outboard Oil

Mercury Optimax/DFI Oil

Yamaha Yamalube 2-M Semi-Synthetic Injector Oil

Bombardier RAM Ficht Oil

The above oil brands are currently the only brands that have been tested and approved by our factory for use in TLDI systems. Brand names listed are trademarked by their respective owners

It doesn't look like Tohatsu has a problem with you using another brand of oil. But I would use one that they recommend, whether you have a TLDI or carbed engine.

http://www.nissanmarine.com/tech_talk/oil_gas.html

ANd breakin info:
http://www.tohatsu-outboards.com/outboard-break-in-chart.htm

Not trying to pick a fight, but it seems that Amsoil never seems to make any of the outboard manufacturers lists of approved oils??

You diffinitely do not want to run synthetic in the engine until if is fully broke in. (I would think) Read your manual and follow it's directions... Don't want to void the warranty either by not using what they recommend...

Re: Just Bought A Tohatsu 40

Thanks guys! I guess I should just run Tohatsu oil, but I want this engine to last a long long time, so I dont know if this is the oil to go with or not-

anyone know how much a gallon tohatsu oil is?

I will def. run a gallon of tohatsu oil through it before I do anything, more than likley I will stay with tohatsu oil unless it is really expensive, thanks.
