I just bought a used 2005 F90. Came with 703 controls. I'm just wondering if this combination has any kind of an alarm or anything to let me know if it overheats or looses oil or any other major problem that might damage the engine. Or do I need to buy the guages with the oil pressure/temperature lights to be notified?

Also I noticed there are two wiring harness hanging down from the control box. One has three wires which I found out is for my tachometer, but whats the other harness for?

If its fuel injected it likely has an alarm for overheating, and a safemode that limits RPM but Im no expert. If you don't have the owners manual you can view them online at Yamahas Outboard website that may, along w specifications by year, tell you what options you have on your specific engine. I just looked at a 2003 Yamaha outboards brochure, I have an 03 F90, and ALL the outboards above 15 hp have an "engine warning system" standard. Not sure what all is monitored.
