Just bought boat.... I'm a little worried now :(

Well, here is the situation:<br /><br />I just bought a 2004 Glastron GX205, black with the tandem axle trailer. It has the snap out carpet, sirrus sat. radio, Volvo V8, depth gauge, all covers, swing tongue with brakes.<br /><br />The NADA on this boat including trailer is $28,200. I bought it for $20,000. The boat has 21 hours on the meter. Come to find out this boat was turned back into the dealer becasue the owner could not afford it. <br /><br />Should I be worried? I am having a mechanic check it out and I saw and heard it run.

No. Boats aren't like cars...that boat was somebody's pride & joy...no boater would mistreat a boat just because of the payments being over budget...no more or less risk than with any other used boat. Relax...the mechanical inspection was a good idea though, money well spent for peace of mind.<br /><br />Let us know how it turns out.

Yeah, I figure with that low of hours, I should not have too much to worry about but I am dropping 20K so I just want to be sure.<br /><br />Thanks!

I agree with jtexas. I don't think you really have much to worry about, boats are built to run hard and with that few of hours, everything is probly fine. The mechanic check is probly worth the money and ease of your mind. Enjoy the nice boat and take care of it.

Cool congratulations!!! What's the rating on that Volvo? Which drive? I agree with jtex, very little to worry about except getting her wet!!

Ok, well I will start my heart back up then The Volvo is the 225 Hp witht he SX outdrive<br /><br />I think 20K is a great deal, if compaired to the NADA values.<br /><br />Now, I have to wait a month or two for some decent weather...

You'd have to try really hard to hurt a boat in two years and 20 hours! Other than sinking or actual damage, even neglect wouldn't have much effect that fast.

My worry is that the person didn't winterize it and a freeze could have cracked the block.

Oh good. You have a legitimate concern. There for a minute I thought you were worried that because the first guy couldnt afford it that means you couldnt. I'm sure you'll be OK.<br /><br />As for your real concern, if the block or head(s) were cracked you'd find water in the oil pretty quickly. <br /><br />If it was run in saltwater you might want to think about some other stuff. Sitting is not good for any boat / motor. Especially with saltwater in it. Motors with lots of hours get flushed regularly even if its with more saltwater. Just keep an eye on the manifolds and risers. Remember, they're cast iron.<br /><br />Congrats! Sounds like you got a neat deal.

Todd, given it is so new, and buying from a dealer, I'd expect that there is a one season warranty on it. Unless it was negotiated out, to reach that price. Even if there is one, continue with having the mech check it out.
