Just brought home a "new to me" Larson!!! Got questions...

First I want to thank everyone who helped me choose this 19' Larson with the 4.3 Volvo Penta. I couldn't be happier. I just brought it home last night and the weather is supposed to be 82 and sunny tomorrow. Perfect for it's first trip with me.

Now, the PO (super nice guy) told me that the engine oil and lower unit gear oil were changed end of last season. Only time on the oil is when we went for a test ride last week. I think I'll run that oil for a little while then change it, for my own piece of mind.

My question is, does anyone have any helpful links for me to read up on besides the user's manual? I'm sure there are things that I'd like to know now rather than find out the hard way later.

Give me some reading!

Thanks,
Steve

Seloc publishes a good series of books on engine maintenance and repairs.

Also, see Boatered.com, a good forum similar to this where there are a lot of knowedgeable boaters.

What year is the boat, that will have an impact on the recommendations you get.

If he changed the oil at the end of the season I'd not worry about it. Congrats man, hope you enjoy her as much as I enjoy mine!

If it is a 2001 there are a few more things that need to be looked at, I would do a very comprehensive inspection of the bellows, U-Joints, and Gimbal Bearing. Shift cables are probably also due for a lube if you are familiar with this process. If the boat has ever been in salt water then you need to check the manifolds and risers as well.
